Whitewater sophomore catcher Alexis “Bam” Larrow is taking her talents abroad this summer.
Larrow will join the international powerhouse Great Britain on the U19 and U22 softball teams. She is the second Wildcat player to join Great Britain as former star Lauren King is also on the roster.
Larrow and King are expected to play on both teams. According to Alexis’ mother, Deborah, they are excited and ready to represent for their family and friends.
“We are all so excited and proud of Bam,” Deborah said. “She has worked so hard and to be recognized like this is truly an honor. Bam and Lauren always have a great time together and even tried out together for the Great Britain team.”
The hard work has surely paid off for Bam Larrow. She was an integral part of Whitewater’s 20-8 season and is a fixture in the lineup. She combines a mix of power and defense for the Wildcats. For this reason, she has garnered the name “Bam” for her raw hitting ability.
“She’s had the nickname Bam since she started playing softball,” Deborah said. “She had so much power behind her swing that it reminded us of Bam Bam from the Flintstones.”
Larrow hopes that the girls bring their high school success to the Great Britain squads. Both the U19 and U22 teams will tour across Europe in various tournaments.
The U19 team is the defending champion and will play in Staranzano, Italy during the week of July 16-21.
The U22 team is a new squad created by Great Britain. They are comprised of juniors and seniors. The team will travel to Trnava, Slovakia during the week of July 23-28.
“We are looking forward to playing at the international level representing a country, making new connections and lifelong friendships,” she said.
