Track & field stars rack up points at state championship meet

The weekend wasn’t just for soccer championships. The GHSA State Championship Meets highlighted the best track and field stars, with a number of top performances from Fayette athletes.
For the Class 5A boys, it was a strong showing for local schools as Starr’s Mill placed 4th, Fayette County 6th, Whitewater 7th, and McIntosh 16th.
For the Class 5A girls, Fayette County brought home the silver, with Starr’s Mill in 7th, McIntosh in 10th, and Whitewater in 17th.
For the Class 4A boys, Sandy Creek took silver. The Lady Patriots placed 19th.
In Class A Private, Landmark Christian finished 2nd for boys and 4th for girls. Our Lady of Mercy finished 11th for boys and 30th for girls.
There were top individual performances aplenty.
Point earners for the Fayette County boys were Caelan Filmore (1st – long jump), Trey Johnson (2nd – 400M dash, 7th – 800M run), 4x400M relay (1st), and 4x100M relay (6th).
Lady Tigers earning points were Sidney Sims (1st – triple jump), Na’ilah Moore (2nd – triple jump, 8th – long jump), Rikkelle Miller (2nd – discus, 8th – shot put), Darryl Langford (2nd – high jump), Tonya Williams (5th – pole vault), Sylvia Freeman (5th – 400M dash), Amaya Anderson (4th – 800M run), and 4x400M relay (3rd).
Points earners for the McIntosh boys were Caleb Podolski (2nd – high jump) and
Zach Jaeger (5th – 3200M run).
Lady Chiefs earning points were Kayla Rose (2nd – 800M run), Megan Uszynski (2nd – 3200M run, 5th – 1600M run), and Addie Fraker (8th – discus throw).
Points earners for the Starr’s Mill boys were Nick Nyman (1st – 3200M run, 2nd – 1600M run), Harrison Fultz (3rd – 1600M run, 4th – 800M run), Ben Runyan (4th – pole vault), and Eric Donevant (4th – shot put, 7th – discus throw).
Lady Panthers earning points were Tenae Grigsby (3rd – 400M dash), Madeline Hammond (4th – high jump), Julia Colson (3rd – pole vault), Mary Valli (5th – 3200M run), Megan Dobso (8th – 3200M run), Nailah Underwood (6th – 300M hurdles), and 4x400M relay (8th).
Points earners for the Whitewater boys were Madias Loper (1st – shot put, 2nd – discus throw) and Harry Harp (2nd – 3200M run, 4th – 1600M run).
Lady Wildcats earning points were Morgan Johnson (2nd – shot put) and Martina Takang (5th – discus throw).
The Sandy Creek boys got points from Caleb Slaughter (high jump), Michael Jones (1st – 110M hurdles. 2nd – 300M hurdles), AJ Hale (3rd – 300M hurdles, 5th – 400M dash), Noah Williams (4th – 800M run), and 4x400M relay (2nd).
The Lady Patriots top performer was Kennedy Davis (3rd – 300M hurdles, 5th – 100M hurdles).
