Member of the Grace Christian Academy Eagles and Eagle Scout Ira Clifton is ready to take flight. On Wednesday afternoon, Clifton signed to play baseball at the next level for the Erskine College Flying Fleet.
On his signing day, Clifton was joined by former coaches from throughout his playing career who helped shape him into the player he is now.
“It’s really nostalgic,” he said. “I get to see people who influenced me and were part of my life coming together here as an end product, and that feels really good.”
A do-it-all player who pitches and plays behind the plate and all over the diamond for Grace, he will focus on pitching as he joins the Flying Fleet.
Erskine in Due West, SC felt like home to Clifton, making it the right choice over several other schools.
“I think that they have my best interests in mind, and they’re a really competitive school,” he said of the private Christian school. “They outlined my goals well, and I think we matched up perfectly.”
Before he flies off with the Fleet, Clifton and the two-time defending GCAA state champion Eagles are already back at work protecting their crown. With his future ahead of him, Clifton won’t rest until his Eagles bring another trophy back to their nest.
