In a rare occurrence, no state champion was crowned out of the county, but there were a number of impressive achievements worth recognizing with the 2022 All-County Boys Soccer honors. 

Matthew Yi of McIntosh and Cade Spurlock of Whitewater are the Co-Players of the Year. Yi, a junior midfielder, posted 12 goals and 13 assists for the Chiefs. Spurlock, a senior keeper who has signed to play professionally in Spain, posted 239 saves with 7 shutouts. 

The All-County First Team kicks off with forwards Giovanni Alvarado of Fayette County, Judd Denney of McIntosh, and Nigel McCloud of Whitewater. 

Alvarado, a freshman striker, posted 10 goals and 4 assists. Denney, a junior, notched 12 goals and 4 assists. McCloud, a senior, racked up 18 goals and 11 assists. 

Midfielders are Gustavo Canas-Meji of Fayette County, Jacob Witucki of McIntosh, Camilo Velez of Starr’s Mill, and Ian Brunet of Whitewater. 

Canas-Meji, a junior, notched 4 goals and 6 assists. Witucki, a junior, tallied 7 goals and 5 assists. Velez, a junior, put up 11 goals and 10 assists. Brunet, a senior, posted 10 goals and 7 assists. 

Defenders are Jacobo Velez of Starr’s Mill, McIntosh’s Andru Stanton and Carter Groh, and Whitewater’s Will Pearce and Donovan Smiech. 

Velez, a senior, anchored the Panther defense while adding 2 assists. Stanton, a junior, put up 6 goals and 6 assists. Groh, a junior, notched 4 goals. Smiech, a freshman, earned All-Region 2nd team honors. 

The keeper is Jacob Gerson of McIntosh. Gerson, a junior, led a Chief team with 8 shutouts. 

The All-County Second Team starts with forward Jaleel Dillon of Whitewater. Dillon, a senior, posted 5 goals and 2 assists. 

Midfielders are Cristian Lozano-Cruz of Fayette County, Benjamin Slay of McIntosh, Starr’s Mill’s Ali Othman and Casper Krabsen Jensen, and Whitewater’s Adrian Arceo and Mekho Rodriguez. 

Lozano-Cruz, a senior, posted 4 goals and 4 assists. Slay, a junior, notched 6 goals and 3 assists. Othman, a junior, tallied 4 goals and 6 assists. Krabsen Jensen, a senior, put up 1 goal and 6 assists. Arceo, a junior, posted 6 assists. Rodriguez, a junior, racked up 5 goals and 4 assists. 

Defenders are Eli Bannister of Whitewater, McIntosh’s Aiden Amaya, Herman Hernandez, and Nicholas Koukoutsis, and Starr’s Mill’s Mason Stallings, and Jude Turpin. 

Bannister, a freshman, notched 2 goals and 2 assists. Amaya, Hernandez, and Koukoutsis teamed up on a stingy Chief back line. Stallings, a sophomore, earned All-Region 2nd team honors. Turpin, a senior, started all 18 games for the Panthers. 

The keepers are Marcelo Quinones-Viela of Starr’s Mill and Sam Thornhill of McIntosh. 

Quinones-Viela, a senior, posted a 1.65 goals against average. Thornill, a junior, helped the Chiefs to 8 shutouts. 

Sandy Creek is represented by Prince Ticha and G’Ante Mackey.
