Whitewater sweeps Jones County in the state playoffs
April 27, 2018-Fayetteville, GA-The Jones County Greyhounds varsity baseball team travels to Fayetteville to take on the Whitewater Wildcats in the first round playoff games as a part of the 2018 Georgia Boys Baseball State Championship Brackets Class AAAAA. The Wildcats move on to the next round by winning 2-1 and 6-2.

Whitewater sweeps Jones County in the state playoffs

Whitewater baseball head coach Rusty Bennett knew he needed to motivate his team.

After losing a tough series against Starr’s Mill earlier in the season, the Wildcats sat at 4-9 and outside of the state playoff picture. They struggled to find consistency on offense and had defensive lapses in the field.

So, Bennett sat down with his team and made a list of goals to accomplish for the remainder of the season. On that list was to raise the team’s average, have quality starts, and to host state playoff matchup among other things. The players took notice and it resulted (more…)

Whitewater continues hot streak with 11-1 win over Griffin

An aura of confidence has energized the Whitewater Wildcats baseball team.

After a rocky start to the season, the Wildcats have turned it around in the last couple of weeks. Riding a three-game sweep of rival Fayette County, the Wildcats returned home to face the undefeated Griffin Bears in region play.

The Bears were 6-0 in Region 3-AAAAA and held a slight lead for second place. However, the Wildcats weren’t fazed by their region foes. Behind an early offensive jolt, Whitewater overpowered Griffin 11-1 on Tuesday night.

Starr’s Mill finishes off sweep of Whitewater

Starr’s Mill hosted a pitching clinic against rival Whitewater during the squads three-game series this week.

The Panthers dominated the Wildcats on the mound and got three superb starts from its pitching staff. They held Whitewater to just one unearned run through 24 innings and sealed the series sweep with an 8-1 victory on Friday night.

“Our pitching was unbelievable all week,” Panthers head coach Brent Moseley said. “We went 24 innings and only gave up one unearned run. It has been unbelievable and we also started hitting today. We are working offensively to get better, but we are good (more…)
