Shanard Rease was charged with aggravated assault and murder in the death of Mimi Perry, 63, of Fayetteville.

A week of tragic events in Fayette County ended Memorial Day with the arrest of a man charged with aggravated assault and murder.

Shanard Rease, 39, of Fayetteville, was charged with the two felonies in connection to a May 24 incident.

According to a press release from the Fayetteville Police Department, on Friday evening, May 24, police were dispatched to a call of a possible deceased person in the area of Bay Branch Boulevard in East Fayetteville along the Hwy. 54 corridor. Detectives with the Fayetteville Police and the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office worked throughout the weekend to track leads in the case.

Arrest warrants were obtained, and Rease was taken into custody around 1 a.m. Monday. He was booked into the Fayette County Jail without bond. The victim is identified as Mimi Perry, 63, of Fayetteville.

“Our detectives worked hard all weekend on this case, and we are grateful to the DA’s office for their assistance,” said Fayetteville Police Chief Scott Gray. “It is always sad to have something like this happen, and it brings some comfort to the community to know that the suspect in the case is off the street.”
