A man was pronounced dead late Sunday afternoon after a traffic accident on Bernhard Road.
The victim, Michael Hearing, 49, was driving his Harley Davidson eastbound on the road at approximately 4:30 p.m., said Sheriff Barry Babb.
In the westbound lane, driving a Mercedes van was Tanesha Stephens, 30, of Atlanta. Babb said the van was turning left into a driveway, but failed to yield. Hearing tried to swerve around the van, but was ejected from his bike onto the side of the road. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Babb said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
Eyewitness Mary Barnard was traveling eastbound on Bernhard and saw the motorcycle veer into her lane to try and avoid hitting the van. She gave a witness statement to the Sheriff’s Department and said Hearing was moving his arm when he was transported.
“I’m just so sorry to hear that he died,” Barnard said.
