The Peachtree City Council will get a raise in January.
City Manager Jon Rorie said the council members have not received a raise in their $1,000 a month salary since 2007.
Council salaries would increase from $1,000 to $1,200 per month, and the mayoral salary would increase from $1,500 a month to $1,800 a month. The budget impact would be just over $12,000 per year.
In an earlier meeting, Councilman Kevin Madden noted the city had made market increases for public safety employees, and a raise could help lure more people to the elections.
At the earlier meeting, Councilmen Mike King and Phil Prebor, who are up for election this fall, were not so sure about the proposal.
“I just don’t think that amount would make a difference,” Prebor said.
King was a little more cynical in his approach.
“If I vote against it, they’ll say I’m trying to get elected. If I abstain, I’d probably get the same reaction.”
The measure passed 3-2 with King and Prebor voting against it.
