Chalk up another lost event to the pandemic of 2020.
During Thursday’s meeting, the Peachtree City Council announced the cancelation of the golf cart parade set for Sept. 5.
The parade is traditionally held on July 4 and is one of the biggest events in the county. Thousands line Peachtree Parkway for a patriotic salute featuring heavily-decorated golf carts and politicians.
COVID-19 caused the parade to be postponed, and city officials moved it to Sept. 5.
Recreation Director Quinn Bledsoe told the City Council that only 20 percent of the normal registrants had signed up for the Sept. 5 parade.
“It would be a 10-minute parade, so we are canceling it,” she said.
She did say the planned fireworks would continue on Lake Peachtree at 8:30 p.m.
