A “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel may be in the works for Pinewood Studios Atlanta, according to Internet blogger Jay Jayson, who posted evidence to that effect Saturday on ComicBook.com.
Jayson says he lifted that information from writer/director James Gunn’s Facebook page when Gunn was answering fan’s questions about a number of different topics. Jayson says Gunn indicated he might try to attend DragonCon in Atlanta, which is scheduled to take place Sept. 4-7, because he will be in the area filming at that time.
“More than likely, that means Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will film at the new Pinewood Atlanta Studios,” Jayson wrote.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy film was primarily shot at Pinewood’s Shepperton studios in the United Kingdom. Gunn was the writer and director of that film.
Guardians of the Galaxy would be the third consecutive Marvel Studios production to use Pinewood Atlanta Studios. Shooting for the first Ant-Man film wrapped up in late 2014, and work has already begun in preparation for filming of Captain America 3. Both of these have been filmed using the studio campus’ Phase One buildings, which include five sound stages.
Construction is underway to more than double the amount of soundstage space, which could mean that multiple productions would be accommodated simultaneously on the studio campus.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is expected to hit cinemas in May 2017.
