Paula Brathwaite, M.D., is given the 2016 Commitment to Care Award.

Paula Brathwaite, M.D., the assistant medical director of emergency services at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, was recently recognized by EmCare as the 2016 Commitment to Care Award winner. EmCare is a leading national physician practice management company and singles out a sole emergency medicine physician for the honor each year.
“I am honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Dr. Brathwaite. “I am fortunate to be part of a growing emergency services program that is dedicated to serving the needs of our community with compassionate, patient-centered care. Our team of emergency medicine professionals has achieved much over the past few years, gaining certifications in stroke and heart care. It’s a privilege to be associated with such an outstanding organization and team.”
Dr. Brathwaite has led the Piedmont Fayette Hospital emergency department through a period of rapid growth, treating more than 68,000 patients in 2015 compared to 39,000 in 2009. She is a recognized leader among her peers at the hospital. In addition, she gives back to her community by serving as the medical director of the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center. She also serves as a volunteer with the Barbados Faces Social Development Mentorship Program for girls.
“Paula’s been able to contribute in so many ways to the success of our hospital and I think it starts with her passion for our patients,” said Piedmont Fayette CEO Michael Burnett. “What makes her special is how she treats each patient as an individual.”
Dr. Brathwaite was honored with the Commitment to Care Award during EmCare’s annual Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. While the Commitment to Care Award recognizes a single emergency physician from across the United States, EmCare also annually honors individuals from hospital medicine, radiology and anesthesiology as its Physicians of the Year.
