Pedestrian struck, killed crossing 92

An 80-year-old man from Sharpsburg is dead after trying to cross State Road 92 illegally on Monday night.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says John Bratcher entered into the crosswalk at the intersection at 92 and Rivers Road during a “no crossing” signal. He was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on SR 92 shortly after 9 p.m.

Investigators do not know why he stepped into the crosswalk at that time and in front of the vehicle, and witnesses confirmed he entered against the signal.

The driver of the automobile was not at fault and will not face charges.

Bratcher was pronounced dead at the scene.
