In the first-ever football game at SunTrust Park, the Kennesaw State Owls and Jacksonville State Gamecocks put on a electric showcase.

Offense ruled the roost as the Owls outlasted the Gamecocks 62-50 to win their 10th game of the season. Jacksonville State fell to 8-3 on the season.

The historic game was filled with spectacular moments. One special encounter involved former Sandy Creek Patriot teammates Jaelen Greene and Justin Sumpter.

Both players were key stars under former Patriots head coach Chip Walker. On Saturday, they squared off for the first time as opponents.

Greene led the Gamecocks with 15 carries for 92 yards. Sumpter, the leading Owls receiver this season, had a catch for 23 yards.

After the game, both athletes were reunited and took a picture on the field. Greene shared the photo on Twitter with the caption “Once a Patriot, Always a Patriot.” Sumpter retweeted and liked the photo.

Both players could meet again in the FCS Playoffs. Jacksonville State made the playoffs as an at-large team and will face East Tennessee State in the first round. Kennesaw State has a first-round bye. The No. 4 Owls will host the winner of Wofford and Elon matchup.
