Peachtree City Police reported Wednesday morning that they have made arrests in the June 5 drowning of a two-year-old boy in Lake Peachtree.
The boy’s parents, 27-year-old Jamie C. Powell from Brooks and 27-year-old Chezz A. McCann from Westville, Illinois, are believed to have both been drinking and using drugs on the evening of June 5 at a home on Loblolly Circle in Peachtree City, according to police reports. When emergency crews were called to the scene, they said the child had been in the water for “an unknown length of time”, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
“The investigation determined that the parents of the child were criminally negligent in the failure to care for the child,” read a Wednesday morning press release.
Powell and McCann were both arrested by the Danville, Illinois police and extradited to Georgia. They were booked into the Fayette County Jail Tuesday night on Second-Degree Murder charges.
