One local man is dead and another was life-flighted from the scene from a fatal car crash Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 3 p.m., the driver of a Nissan Altima traveling northbound on State Route 85 crossed over the center line between Price Road and Royal Ridge Way. The Altima struck a Ford F-250 head on.
The driver of the Altima, 26-year-old Georges Joseph, Jr. of Fayetteville, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.
“You couldn’t even recognize the car that crossed over the center line,” Babb said of the Altima. “It completely destroyed the vehicle.”
The driver of the truck, identified as William Betsill on a GoFundMe set up to help his family, was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Cetner. According to Babb, he was alert, conscious, and breathing at the scene, and it is believed his injuries are not life-threatening.
According to Babb, investigators do not yet know what caused Joseph to cross the center line, but a number of witnesses are assisting in the investigation.
Traffic was blocked in both directions, leading to congestion on surrounding roads for several hours to deal with the wreck and the resulting damage and debris.
