National Recovery Month was established in 1989 to observe, promote, and support new evidence based treatment and recovery practices throughout the nation. Additionally, the month of September is dedicated to service providers and communities who make recovery in all forms possible (SAMHSA, 2022).

Fayetteville, Georgia, September 1, 2022 – in celebration of National Recovery Month, the Fayette County Accountability Courts spotlighted the DUI/Drug Court’s 20th graduation ceremony on September 7th.  The Fayette County DUI Court was the first in the Griffin Judicial Circuit.  The DUI/Drug Court was established on January 1, 2016 by with the honorable Judge Jason B. Thompson as the presiding judge.  Now in its sixth year, Judge Thompson states “DUI/Drug Courts save lives, families, jobs and dollars.” Since its inception in 2016, the Fayette County Accountability Courts has graduated 65 individuals.  Currently 27 participants are in the program.  To date, the Fayette County Accountability Courts has saved Fayette County taxpayers over $465,000.

The court reduces correctional costs, enhances community safety, and improves public welfare.  In the program, addicted individuals remain in treatment for approximately 18 months while under close supervision. Court participants must meet obligations to the court, themselves and society. To ensure accountability, participants are regularly and randomly tested for substance use, attend required therapy and addiction recovery meetings and must appear frequently in court for the judge to review their progress.

The Fayette County Accountability court team is proud to work with those seeking change.  Adam Glendye, Treatment Provider, states “Working with our participants on their substance and trauma recovery is essential to their success after the program. Our treatment team is committed to providing our participants the tools, skills, and the desire to be healthier. Our participants often choose to continue to counseling, voluntarily, after completing the program.” -Adam R Glendye LPC, CPCS.
