A tragic traffic accident Tuesday morning left one person dead and traffic snarled for hours.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the incident occurred at 8:51 a.m. on Ga. Highway 92, south of Madison Place.

A tractor trailer carrying a load of lumber was traveling north on the state road, when a passenger vehicle headed southbound crossed the center line and struck the truck. The driver of the truck was not injured, but the driver of the car was transferred to Piedmont Fayette. Jalen Webster, 18, of Fairburn, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The collision left the truck’s load of lumber scattered along the highway. Babb said the road was shut down to clear up the debris.
