The state volleyball semifinals will have a distinctly Fayette feel as four local teams made the Final Four across two classifications.

In Class AAAA, Sandy Creek beat Woodward Academy 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-13) in the quarterfinals. The Patriots host Blessed Trinity tonight in the semifinals at 6 p.m. as they take aim at their fourth state championship and first since 2012.

In Class AAAAA, McIntosh leads the way as they pursue their third-straight state championship. The Chiefs swept Riverwood in straight sets (25-13, 25-13, 25-12). McIntosh travels to face Buford, who they beat for the crown last year, in the semifinals.

The other half of the bracket will be all Fayette as Starr’s Mill hosts Whitewater again in the Final Four at 6 p.m.

The Panthers punched their ticket by beating a strong Locust Grove squad on the road 3-1, shaking off a first-set loss and winning three straight (23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-9) to advance.

The Wildcats rolled through Loganville in a straight-sets win (27-25, 25-23, 25-14).

Sandy Creek, McIntosh, Starr’s Mill, and Whitewater have all advanced to the state volleyball semifinals.
