Last year on Sept. 11, four City of Fayetteville firefighters hiked in full turnout gear up the mile-long trail to the top of Stone Mountain in honor of the firefighters who sacrificed their lives rescuing people from the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. This year, and more specifically this Sunday morning, about a dozen Fayetteville firefighters and perhaps a few police officers are preparing to repeat the climb, again carrying the American Flag with them. Fire Captain Keith Harris said firefighers will assemble at the base of the mountain beginning at 8 a.m.
