An attempted robbery at the Fayette Pavilion Publix was cut short Tuesday morning when the suspect, who did not appear to be carrying a gun, lost his nerve and ran for the curb.
According to Fayetteville Police, a black male appearing to be 60-65 years old entered the grocery, approached a checkout stand and told the cashier she was being robbed.
“The suspect demanded all of the money and told her he would ‘shoot everyone’ but did not brandish a weapon,” said Lieutenant Mike Whitlow. “The cashier was able to delay the male long enough that he became nervous and fled the store.
Whitlow said Fayette County deputies and Fayetteville Police officers teamed up to search the area, but the suspect was not to be found.
“Fayetteville detectives are reviewing surveillance video of the incident and speaking with witnesses,” Whitlow said.
The suspect is said to have been wearing dark clothing, a white baseball cap and dark sunglasses with pink accents.
