A bank robber is being sought by Fayetteville Police following a morning heist.

On Monday at 9 a.m., an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the Chase Bank on Glynn Street by a man who entered the bank right when it opened and then fled on foot. No one was physically harmed and the suspect is still at large.

The black male, who Fayetteville Police believe was probably in his 40s, wearing a black baseball cap, gray sweatshirt and black shorts entered and asked the bank teller for a deposit slip. According to Capt. Mike Whitlow, when she turned around to give him the deposit slip he “jumped over the counter, produced a handgun and demanded all the money.”

He fled northbound on foot towards Bojangles, and “most likely, he had a vehicle waiting on him,” Whitlow said.

Fayetteville Police officers arrived to the scene within 30 seconds of getting the call. They are currently in the process of examining surveillance video from Chase and surrounding businesses.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at (770) 461-4441.
