
Fayetteville City Council members will vote Thursday night on whether to hire Raymon Gibson of Hampton to fill the shoes of retiring City Manager Joe Morton.
After fielding more than 30 applications for the city’s top job, city counil members chose Gibson, who is currently the administrative and community services director for the City of Stockbridge.
Prior to his current role, Gibson was city manager in Cochran, and he was Stockbridge’s city administrator before that.
According to the employment agreement expected to be approved Thursday night, Gibson will start with the City of Fayetteville on a $95,000 salary, which will be reviewed annually for increase consideration.
While Gibson has worked in municipal administration roles since January 2010, the bulk of his career prior to then was spent in municipal planning, including nearly eight years with the Henry County Planning & Zoning Department, where he served nearly five years as department director.
Tomorrow’s city council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall.
