An unfortunate stomp on the wrong pedal Tuesday afternoon sent a vehicle lunging into pedestrians at the Georgia Department of Driver Services’ location on McDonough Road in eastern Fayette County.
According to Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Allen Stevens, an elderly man was parking at the DDS office and “accelerated instead of braking, causing his vehicle to leave the parking space and strike two people standing under a covered shed.”
Stevens said the vehicle also struck and damaged the large wheelchair ramp attached to the back of the building. He said the people hit by the elderly man’s vehicle were transported to a medical facility with non life-threatening injuries.
“No charges will be filed on the driver,” Stevens said.
