Bowling alley gun wielder captured after long search

NurseA man who pulled out a gun in front of children at a bowling alley was arrested Tuesday, April 4 after a months-long search.

On October 7, 2016, 39-year-old Javan Nurse got into an altercation with a woman at Fayetteville Fun Bowl after her child’s bowling ball rolled into his lane. At some point during the argument, Nurse grabbed a gun and wielded it in front of the woman and children who were present. The group left and called the police while Nurse got into an argument with another group. Nurse had left by the time a Fayetteville Police Department officer had arrived.

He was captured and identified in a lineup by multiple witnesses and booked into jail on charges of cruelty to children, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and terroristic threats and acts.

“Clearly, this guy was probably unstable before this and for whatever reason that just set him off,” said Fayetteville Police Department Lt. Mike Whitlow. “Arguments happen in bowling alleys all the time. They usually don’t result in somebody pulling a gun out.”
