Before a packed courtroom Wednesday morning Shanard Rease, 39, of Fayetteville, was denied bond in a preliminary hearing in the May 24 killing of Mimi Perry.
Superior Court Judge Christopher Edwards said Rease posed a flight risk, while prosecutors said they would be taking the case to the grand jury June 18.
The case started on Friday evening, May 24, when police were dispatched to a call of a possible deceased person in the area of Bay Branch Boulevard in East Fayetteville along the Hwy. 54 corridor. Detectives with the Fayetteville Police and the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office worked throughout the weekend to track leads in the case.
Arrest warrants were obtained, and Rease was taken into custody around 1 a.m. May 27. He was booked into the Fayette County Jail without bond.
The victim was identified as Mimi Perry, 63, of Fayetteville.
