Strong start propels Starr’s Mill to victory over Whitewater

It was a big fight atmosphere Starr’s Mill hosted Whitewater on Tuesday night. Fans filled the stands to witness the second game between the crosstown rivals.
The game carried extra meaning with the winner locking up the top seed heading into the Region 3-AAAAA tournament. Both teams came out swinging, but it was the Lady Panthers that secured a 7-3 victory.

The Panthers improved to 22-2 overall and 10-0 in the region. They earned the top seed as Whitewater suffered its third loss.

Sandy Creek eclipses Starr’s Mill 55-21

Sandy Creek spent the past week in a review session to correct self-inflicted wounds sustained a disappointing loss to Ridgeland last week. After starting hot out the gates, mistakes marred a winnable game. The Patriots struggled with turnovers and missed scoring opportunities. As a result, the Patriots found themselves in a similar spot as last season—underachieving as a team.

Starr’s Mill fends off McIntosh 3-0 in Battle of Bubble

Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers head coach Mark Williamson rushed to the mound in the sixth inning. He had to talk to his starting pitcher Lilli Backes.

After a 10-pitch sequence against McIntosh pitcher Rebecca Muh, Williamson sensed his freshman lefty was almost out of gas. With junior Paige Andrews already warm, he was ready to make a pitching change.

Williamson never got the chance. During the brief discussion, Backes convinced him to stay in the game.

September 4, 2018-Peachtree City, Georgia-Peachtree City and Fayette County turn out in force to recognize and honor the recent accomplishments of the Peachtree City Little League team at the 2018 Little League World Series. A number of people, including Peachtree City Mayor, Vanessa Fleisch, spoke of the team's accomplishments.

The red carpet was rolled out for the Peachtree American Little League baseball team on Tuesday night.

After a month-long odyssey in Williamsport, PA, the Peachtree City squad returned to a homecoming fit for champions. It was a star-studded event adorned with family, friends, and community members joining to celebrate their young heroes.

Whitewater shortstop Lily Griffith knew the fastball was coming. After seeing three fastballs in her first at-bat against McIntosh starter Rebecca Muh, she just had to trust her eyes.

In the third inning, she dug into the plate with a simple objective. She had to drive in the run that was sitting at second base. After fouling off a few tough pitches, Griffith got the fastball that she was searching for.

She didn’t miss it.

Starr’s Mill loses heartbreaker to Northgate 31-29

Starr’s Mill needed one final puzzle piece to solve the Northgate Vikings.

Down 31-24 with a minute left, junior running back Kalen Sims crossed the goal line to give the Panthers a chance. They needed two points to tie and send it to overtime. Sims, the reigning Player of the Week, had scored three times again. Now, he just needed a couple yards to reset the game.

Late score propels Georgia State past Kennesaw State

A new rivalry was born on Thursday night as the Georgia State Panthers and Kennesaw State Owls faced off in their inaugural matchup. In front of 23,088 fans, the Panthers upended the Owls 24-20 to kick off their 2018 campaign on a high note.

The hype around the programs fueled the first-time matchup at Georgia State Stadium. Both football programs are still in their infancy as the Panthers started play in 2010 and the Owls started in 2015.

Kennesaw State senior wideout Justin Sumpter watched as his phone repeatedly buzzed with notifications from Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. 

His mentions were out of control with re-tweets and commentary following the Owls 42-28 victory over the Liberty University Flames. Sandy Creek takes opener over Whitewater 49-10

The Sandy Creek Patriots opened the 2018 season with a different mentality against the Whitewater Wildcats. On Friday night, they were all business as they shut down the Wildcats 49-10 on the road.

All offseason, Patriots head coach Brett Garvin has preached the words “focus” and the phrase “do your job” to his players. The message was heard loud and clear as Patriots played with a renewed energy from the opening snap.

Peachtree City advances to the LLWS U.S. Championship Game

Peachtree City is heading to the Little League World Series U.S. Championship Game.

After beating Staten Island, New York on Thursday, Peachtree City has a date with the team from Honolulu, Hawaii. It will be rematch of the longest game in Williamsport, Pa this summer. Hawaii won the first game, 2-0, in 11 innings.

However, this game holds greater stakes. The winner of U.S. title game will face the international champion for the right to the overall LLWS crown.

Peachtree City enters the U.S. finals on a four-game winning streak. They have caught fire after falling to the elimination bracket (more…)
