Jonesboro escapes with 24-17 win over Fayette

Fayette County head coach Mike Davis acknowledges that things haven’t gone well for his team this season.

At 0-8, the Tigers are still searching for their elusive first win. Injuries and youth have played a role in creating inconsistency and struggles. However, the one constant is the heart of the Tigers. Each week, Fayette has steadily improved and fought to the end.

On Friday night, the Tigers did just that.

Flat Rock flies past Whitewater for middle school title

Flat Rock Middle School concluded their memorable season on a high note by winning their third middle school championship in six years. On Thursday, the Eagles defeated the Whitewater Middle Wildcats in a thrilling 12-8 victory.

“It feels good and awesome to get a championship,” Flat Rock receiver Travis Franklin said.

Back2Back: McIntosh repeats as region volleyball champ

There was a different look in the eyes of the McIntosh Lady Chiefs. After two grueling matches against Starr’s Mill in the semifinals, the Chiefs were focused on regaining their Region 3-AAAAA championship crown.

McIntosh head coach Wendy Mabon noticed the intensity as well. As she gathered the team, she didn’t have to say much. It was understood that the final matchup against Whitewater would be all business.

Sandy Creek falls late to Cartersville at home

Sandy Creek Patriots head coach Brett Garvin took a minute before addressing his players. As he looked in the distance, the looming scoreboard told the story. Seven points separated Patriots and the No. 4 ranked Cartersville Purple Hurricanes. One touchdown gave Cartersville a 7-0 victory.

Once the team gathered at the 10-yard line, Garvin began his usual postgame huddle. Before he concluded his speech, he looked at each of his players and announced that he was proud of them.

PTC approves townhomes near MacDuff Parkway

The City Council of Peachtree City approved a rezoning amendment to the West Village neighborhood adjacent to MacDuff Parkway at Thursday’s meeting.

The original plan, rezoned in 2007, is transitioning a small-scale retail agreement into 42 new townhomes. Under the new amendment, the rezoning is changing to LUR-15 in the Everton Phase 8 project.

“We do feel like the townhomes are more viable in this particular area than the retail since this plan was approved in 2007,” FieldStone Realty Partners representative Dan Fields said.

Whitewater outlasts Starr’s Mill to win Region 3-AAAAA Crown

There is a new team sitting atop the Region 3-AAAAA softball throne, as the Whitewater Lady Wildcats dethroned Starr’s Mill and won their second region title under head coach Robert Townsend.

Whitewater traveled six miles down the road into enemy territory. It is never easy to win at Panther Stadium, but the Wildcats were up to the task. In front of a packed house, the Wildcats went 12 rounds with the Panthers and took both games of the region championship doubleheader.

Dyami Reshaw making waves as 9-year old prodigy

Dyami Reshaw is a young man of many talents. Whether it is karate, soccer, track, or basketball, he finds a way excel at the highest levels.

At nine years old, Dyami is a phenom in Fayette County. He regularly competes at Master Shims World Class Taekwondo and won the running flying kick competition. He also trains with the Bo Bell Basketball Academy and has been featured on YouTube showcasing his dribbling techniques.

One of his biggest accomplishments happened earlier this year. Dyami qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics by winning the jumping events in the nine-year-old division. It was a (more…)

Sandy Creek falls 35-21 to Troup County

It was homecoming at Sandy Creek High School as the Patriots welcomed the Troup County Tigers to town. Patriots alumni old and new arrived to see the marquee matchup in Region 5-AAAA.

Local media outlets, Channel 2 and Fox 5, were also in attendance to showcase the contest as the Game of the Week. However, an hour weather delay put a damper on things as Sandy Creek washed away a chance at victory.

Baseball Lab opens doors in new facility

Baseball Lab continued its rich tradition of educating youth baseball players last Saturday with a big tradition. The company founded by Esteban Maldonado and Eddie Sanchez staked new roots at the All-Star Baseball & Softball complex in Peachtree City.

They opened their doors to the community and welcomed the Joseph Sams School and Miracle League to preview the facility. Both got a chance to test the new analytical equipment and tour the complex.

Whitewater falls to Griffin 39-18 in region opener

Whitewater looked to wipe the slate clean on Friday night. After a tough non-region gauntlet, the Wildcats returned to Region 3-AAAAA action as they welcomed the Griffin Bears to Wildcats Stadium.

Both teams came into the game searching for an identity. Griffin hoped to build momentum and confidence in their young team. Whitewater searched for normalcy as key players Hunter Williams and Elijah Roland returned from injury.

In a back and forth game, Griffin’s aerial attack proved to be the difference. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 27 to 11 in the second half and rode to a 39-18 victory.
