F’ville unveils designs for new city hall, park space

The vision for Fayetteville’s new city center is coming into focus with the unveiling of designs for the new city hall and adjoining park space at Thursday night’s council meeting.

Culminating a design process of six to eight months working with architects at Goodwyn Mills Cawood, City Manager Ray Gibson presented the plans. Situated on 10 acres purchased from the Board of Education in 2018, the completed project will represent a new home built specifically for the City of Fayetteville, which has previously used repurposed buildings, like old school houses, for government offices.

Howard Stanley “Dickie” Umphress, Jr.

Howard Stanley “Dickie” Umphress, Jr., 76, of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. He was born in Atlanta, GA on December 6, 1942 to the late Marion and Howard Umphress, Sr. Dickie proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was retired from AT&T after 30 years of service.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Umphress, and sister, Bette Umphress Scales. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda W. Umphress; his son, Warren and Anna Umphress; his daughters, Kim and Allen Duff and Sonja Catoe ; his niece, Bridget (more…)

Branch reflects on journey before final ride with Patriots

The morning sun illuminated the exterior walls of Patriots Stadium. As the remaining daybreak ran its course, Sandy Creek senior defensive back Brian Branch casually took his place in front of a mural depicting former Patriots alumni.

Brimming with confidence, Branch unleashed his signature pose as he stood for his Fayette News “Super 12” photo. His number 14 was emblazoned in the spotlight of Patriots legends like Calvin Johnson, Andrew Gardner, and Kedric Golston.
