The Whitewater Lady Wildcats picked up a key victory over an area rival with Monday night’s 16-5 win over Fayette County.
Whitewater started the game strong, building up a 6-0 lead. Fayette responded by scoring two of the next three goals, but the Cats finished with two more to take a 9-2 lead at halftime.
Whitewater kept up the pressure on offense, while the defense and goalie Brianna Shepler limited the Tigers. Fayette would strike last in the 16-5 match.
The Cats were led in scoring by Taylor Todd and Rose Perkins, who each scored 3 goals. Ally Leonard and Sharity Bayerlein tallied two apiece. Olivia Starkey, Katie Byrum, Mariah McCastle, Maddie Ackerson, Chelsea Lawrence, and Faith Bannister each scored one goal. Bayerlein and Avery Hopkins each notched one assist.
The young Tiger program, in their first year of varsity play, flashed potential against the Wildcats. Trinity Brown, a key contributor on the Lady Tiger basketball team, flashed her athleticism with a pair of goals in the first half. Chinedu Ogadi, Jocelyn Arnold, and India Martin each scored a goal in the second half.
