The vacant home of the Department of Driver Services is set to be razed and replaced by a fire station following a unanimous vote at Thursday night’s County Board of Commissioners meeting.
The Department of Driver Services (DDS) building has been vacant since November 2016. Problems with the building, including excessive moisture and significant remodeling needs, have scared off several groups who had been interested in the property.
The current location of Fire Station #4 on Johnson would require extensive elevation changes for a new building, making the DDS location a good fix for both problems.
Funds for the new fire station were previously approved for SPLOST dollars. The site will require a new septic system.
DDS is now located at 749 W. Lanier Avenue in Fayetteville.
