Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies Friday morning arrested and charged 68-year-old Michael Lamar “Mickey” Graves in the Saturday, Feb. 20, shooting death of his 42-year-old nephew Jason Brett Graves.
According to sheriff’s office reports, deputies responded at 6:27 p.m. to a “person shot” call at 205 Easton Road in northern Fayette County. Upon arrival at Graves Used Cars & Parts, a family-owned junkyard, deputies reportedly found Brett Graves lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.
Mickey Graves is said to have been the only other person at the incident location, and he is said to have been the person who called 911.
“Life-saving measures were started by EMS personnel, and the victim was transported to [Piedmont Fayette] Hospital where the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased,” said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said early in the week that his office and Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard’s office were investigating the case to determine if the shooting took place in self-defense or if homicide charges were in order.
Friday morning, Babb announced they had indeed arrived at the decision to arrest Mickey Graves and to charge him with Felony Murder, Malice Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault.
