Martha Jane Jones Varner

Martha Jane Jones Varner, 85, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away on November 19, 2018. Jane was born on March 23, 1933 in Commerce, Georgia, the youngest of 7 children born to Dayton and Fanny Jones.  She married Aubrey Varner of Carnesville, Georgia on November 23, 1950 and lived in Fayetteville, Georgia from 1955 until the present. For the past 3 years, she has enjoyed living at Azalea Estates with friends and caring staff members.
Raising five children, Jane’s chosen vocation was motherhood. She fully invested herself in her husband, home, children, and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, the Fellowship class and Discipleship class, and the United Methodist Women.  Jane was a founder of the Titus II ministry, caterer for church events, Sunday school teacher, a serious student of the Bible, and a disciple of Jesus. Jane’s gentle presence always made a place of peacefulness and welcome for others. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Varner; grandson, Thomas Kent; son, Terry Varner; granddaughter, Emma Groover; husband of 58 years, Aubrey Varner in  2009; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Varner.  She is survived by daughters, Deb Cole (Frank), Patsy Kent (Craig), Susan Groover (Hampton), and Laurie Varner; grandchildren, Zack Varner (Ilia), Luke Varner (Jenny), Arwen Varner-Howland (Peter), Mariah Varner, John Cole (Yoly), Courtney Cole, April Kent, Melanie Kent, Rachel Kent, Ben Kent, Aubrey Groover, Malachi Groover (Dena), Jake Groover, Ethan Groover, Ellie Groover; great grandchildren, Niko Cole, Maria Sophia Cole, and Lily Jane Varner; deeply loved nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends. A funeral service will be held at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with doors open at 10:00 AM.  The burial will be held at Bold Spring United Methodist Church at 4:00 PM on November 24, 2018. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
