19-year-old woman charged with statutory rape of 14-year-old boy

A 19-year-old woman is under arrest and charged with the statutory rape of a 14-year-old boy.

Shaniya Cotton, of Jonesboro, has been accused of having a ongoing relationship with the underage boy.

The victim’s mother reported her suspicions to the Fayetteville Police Department, who then began an investigation. A forensic interview with the victim substantiated the mother’s claims, and the suspect confirmed the allegations upon being interviewed herself.

Cotton was placed under arrest December 14 while at her job as an aide at Fayette Elementary School. There is no indication that they were together at the school, but most details of the relationship are still being investigated.

Cotton is facing one charge of Statutory Rape, and the investigation is ongoing.
